After selling our business in Melbourne my partner Ian and myself wanted to buy property and commit ourselves to the environment. Looking on the internet we thought we'd found what we were looking for in Tassie and flew down from Melbourne to view the property the house was in desperate repair but the local environment took our hearts. We decided this was it so went back to Melbourne and sold our house and came back to start our new life.Our property is on St Patricks Head just out of St Marys. We have seventy five acres of regrowth bush which backs onto St Patricks Head State Reserve and overlooks the north east coast of Tasmania with stunning views of the coast. Through the Protected Areas on Private Land Program we now have a conservation covenant placed on the property. We are also Land For Wildlifers registered wildlife carers are a registered release site with the Nature Conservation Branch and we are members of Wildcare. Through the Protected Areas on Private Land Program we have also applied to make our property a Private Nature Reserve. We have also built ourselves a new life style business while still protecting our land for the wildlife because we are able to build three accommodation cabins with the covenant in place.Our property has many protected species such as the unique Blind Velvet Worm Tasmanian White Goshawk Wedge Tailed Eagle Spotted Tailed Quoll Swift Parrot and Bandicoots. We also have Tassie Devils Potoroos Wedge Tail Eagle Echidnas Black Cockatoos Scarlet Robins Ringtail Possums Pygmy Possums to name a few as well as many varieties of flora too many to mention.

Rainbow Retreat is in St Patricks Head once you get to St Marys go to Gillies Road wich is off the Tasman Hwy just before St Marys Pass go all the way to the end of Gillies Road then you will see a sign Rainbow Retreat open gate if closed make bookings at Lodge. |
