Saxa Rubra is the name given by the Romans to the red tufa rocks which can be seen on Via Flaminia north to Rome. According to some studies the name Saxa Rubra was already mentioned in operas written by Livio Tacito and Cicerone. It is said that the red colour of the rocks derives from the blood shedded by the soldiers in the battle of Constantin and Massenzio.
