DESCRIPTION |
The buildings of Castello di Montegonzi formed the original nucleus of the village of Greve in Chianti. Montegonzi sprung up around a fortified castle dating back to the twelfth century. The dominant position of the castle made it strategically important for controlling communication between Florence and Siena. In 1629 the castle was partially destroyed by the Ghibellini family of Siena who were warring the Guelfi family of Florence. In the restoration of the castle care was taken to recreate where possible the original style using only the original stonework. The pavements are partially original and all the external features have been designed to reproduce the original features as closely as possible again using only the original stonework recovered from the old fortress in order to recreate the atmosphere of times past. Apartments of different sizes have thus been recreated for your holiday with all the comforts you would expect. The two bedded and or four bedded apartments each equipped with a small kitchen area a balcony boasting magnificent panoramic views or an attractive garden veranda with table and chairs have all been renovated with sentiment and exquisite taste by those who know respect and love this land.
